President Trump Claimed Iran Conflict Would Last Weeks—Six Months Later, Devastation Remains
President Trump said the U.S. and Israel’s military strikes on Iran would last “a matter of weeks.” Now, six months after the conflict began, the scars of war are still visible across Iran, with cities like Minab mourning the loss of more than 100 children killed in a school bombing on the war’s first day. Buildings remain in ruins, and families continue to grieve, highlighting the ongoing human cost of a conflict that has far outlasted Trump’s initial prediction.
At a separate event, President Trump honored the Artemis II lunar mission crew with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, praising them as “four intrepid space heroes whose sense of daring and adventure led them further from Earth than anyone has ever traveled before.” The ceremony also included Trump’s signing of an executive order to create the United States Space Academy, which he compared to a West Point for the military space branch.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration faces legal challenges after a federal judge ruled that Pentagon measures against A.I. company Anthropic were “illegal and baseless.” The judge found that Anthropic was denied due process when Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth labeled the company a national security risk after it refused to allow military use of its A.I. models for surveillance or autonomous weapons. The administration is expected to contest the ruling.
Trump’s statements and actions continue to draw scrutiny, particularly as the consequences of his policies and predictions unfold in real time. The ongoing conflict in Iran, which he said would be brief, remains unresolved, leaving a trail of destruction and grief that stands in stark contrast to his earlier assurances.
